GIANT VASE

A sculpture made of light clay, decorated with black and pink engobes, set on a blue base and finished with a transparent glaze. The figure holds a hot-water bottle shaped like a human head — which might mistakenly suggest an act of violence, but we’ve cleared that up now. Because the giant’s body is hollow and its large (and giant’s) mouth faces upward, it also serves perfectly as a vase for a single flower. The base of the sculpture is slightly cracked underneath (though no one looks there); it’s purely a surface detail and doesn’t affect its watertightness. The differently sized eyes are intentional — I couldn’t reconcile myself with the idea of a one-eyed giant, so I added a smaller one for reading.

Each object is made as a one-of-a-kind piece. Creating an identical one wouldn’t be possible — nor something I’d want to try.
